Yan Jiehe Meets with Rupert Hoogewerf, Chairman of Hurun Report and Professor at Durham University Business School

On December 21st, Yan Jiehe, Founder of the Pacific and Susun groups and Chairman of the Zhuangyan Think Tank, met with Rupert Hoogewerf, Chairman of Hurun Report and Professor at Durham University Business School, in Shanghai. The two engaged in a deep discussion on the topics of the evolution of Chinese enterprises and urban development. Wang Jianchuang, Vice Chairman of the Board of Susun Group, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, both parties watched promotional videos for Zhuangyan Think Tank and Susun Group.

Yan Jiehe expressed gratitude for the era, noting that the market economy has been instrumental in their success. He highlighted that the 19th National Congress elevated the status of private enterprises, and the 20th National Congress's "two unwavering principles" further liberated private enterprises, enhancing their political standing. Yan emphasized that small enterprises are private, but large enterprises belong to the country, and they have always aligned with national strategies. He stressed that both in the past and future, they remain committed to solid industrial work, embodying the wisdom and conscience of Chinese entrepreneurs dedicated to national prosperity.

Yan also emphasized that the type of leadership determines the nature of an enterprise. Relying solely on temporary background or opportunities cannot sustain long-term development; it ultimately depends on the "gold content" of the leaders. With China's economy transitioning from "shortage" to "severe surplus," it's time for a "Replace the old with the new," where only enterprises with high-quality leadership can survive. He noted that long-term development requires soft power, with culture being its core. The competitiveness of an enterprise lies in its culture, and its success depends on its vision, inclusiveness, and the caliber of like-minded elites it can attract.

He reiterated their approach of adhering to market rules and legal standards, avoiding political entanglements, and maintaining integrity in their operations. As a "new state-owned enterprise run by the people," they are confident in their international aspirations, transitioning from "supporting roles" to "leading roles." Following the Pacific and Susun groups, Zhuangyan aims to be the third entity to join the Fortune Global 500 by 2029. Hurun Report as a globally credible and influential brand, hopes that both parties can integrate resources to build a higher-level exchange platform, gather more inspiration and wisdom, and "support each other to create a continuous series of great performances."

Rupert Hoogewerf discussed the changes in China's wealth creation structure in recent years and introduced the current state and future plans of Hurun Report. Hurun Report is dedicated to identifying enterprise value and promoting entrepreneurial spirit through high-quality rankings and research. For the past 25 years, Hurun Report has been telling the stories of entrepreneurs, which mirror the development of China's private economy.

Rupert expressed that Hurun Report plans to expand its business to more regions worldwide, aiming to become a globally influential evaluation institution and establish a platform for smooth communication between enterprises, entrepreneurs, and investors.
